About Chinook Home Inspections

From the Owner

Hi, I’m Gavin Parks, Licensed Home Inspector (License #1717) with the State of Washington and owner of Chinook Home Inspections. I am a Pacific Northwest native and absolutely love it here. I started this company after working for 15 years “hands-on” in the construction and home building industry.  Along the way I wore many hats and have local experience in nearly all aspects of building – including foundations, framing, plumbing, electrical, roofing, remodels and erosion control/drainage.  My time in the trade has given me insight into common and rare conditions that plague northwest dwellings as well as uniquely qualifying me to accurately assess home integrity.

Beyond my professional opinions, I have personal experience with the importance of home inspections. When my wife and I bought our first home it was a cute, 1940’s charmer with tons of character. We had a home inspection but there wasn’t a lot of regulation in the industry at the time and our unqualified inspector missed a lot of issues with the home. We were young and newlywed, but were unable to move in for months. We were also unprepared to take on the financial burden of the repairs. Our new home turned into a nightmare when it should have been a honeymoon! This experience obviously carries with me today, I know what it’s like to step into the unexpected with a home and I am passionate about preventing that for others.

It would be an honor to join you in your hunt for a great home, I promise to care about your investment like it were my own.

The Chinook Approach

There is no “perfect” home, it’s just not the nature of things. In the Northwest especially, seasonal rain and sun can decay wood and weather paint. Every component has a lifespan. With this in mind, we will find “stuff” on every house. This is not meant to scare you, it’s simply intended to give an accurate glimpse of where this house has been and what may need to be addressed.

Just about any issue can be resolved with time or money, knowing what is present allows you to choose what you are willing to take on. The alternative puts you at risk of facing big, unexpected repairs that may have directed your purchase or sale differently had you known in advance.
